My Smarties

Greetings! It's been a while, I know.

School blows in full-force by mid September and I get caught up in it all.

Although the leaves will change color every fall,  you can't always predict what kind of class you'll get. As a teacher, you meet your students where they're at, give them the support they need,  so that they can gel into a community of learners.

Although the journey in first grade is long, it's an amazing one.

This year's class is independent and capable! Frankly and happily they've come to me with more skills than I am used to. I end up running all day,  so that I can keep them engaged.

Not surprising, I'm tired at the end of the day and blogging is not always the first thing on my list of things to do.

My brain churns with such speed that by the end, I just don't have any words left. Written or verbal.By the time I roll into the driveway around 4:00 PM, it takes effort to decompress. Usually I take the newspaper and an iced coffee to the porch, or if I'm feeling guilty about my caffeine intake,  a glass of milk with cookies on the lawn and I work myself back into the life of the refreshed.

I've worked hard over the years to leave the work at school, but turning off my brain once I make the turn onto Park Ave takes effort. And now I'll switch it off again since I am done with this post.

Nice to see you on line again. I'm glad to hear your class is a good one. It must be pleasant to come home to your lovely updated home.

Funny note. I met a hiker last weekend in Franconia Notch and I was talking to him and comparing hiking stories and our stories about Crocket Mtn. were eerily similar and then we figured out he was in the group that we met on the mountain--the ones who successfully found Reddington that day. Small world.

It is comforting to read that we all struggle with the same thing - leaving school at school.

That is one thing I vowed when I came back to teaching-- I leave it in the building. I'll do all I can today, and what I can't get to will be there tomorrow. It makes such a difference in my happiness in all aspects of my life.
